The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two suspects linked to the gruesome murder of a young woman from Nasarawa State, whose burned body was discovered in the “Gangare” slum behind Mile 12 Market on May 24, 2025.
The incident, which triggered widespread outrage, has been clarified by the police as a domestic dispute involving the victim’s estranged boyfriend, debunking rumors of ethnic or religious motives.
According to CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, preliminary investigations indicate the victim, who lived with northern relatives in the slum, was targeted by her ex-boyfriend, who is currently at large.
Allegedly, he conspired with accomplices to forcibly rekindle their relationship. When she resisted, she was abducted, murdered, and her remains were set ablaze.
“This was a premeditated act of conspiracy and cold-blooded murder,” Hundeyin stated, dismissing false claims of blasphemy.
The two suspects are in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), assisting in the manhunt for the ex-boyfriend and other accomplices.
The police have restored calm in the Gangare slum and Mile 12 area, assuring residents there is no risk of ethnic tension or reprisals.
The Command urged Lagosians to avoid spreading unverified rumors and to continue their daily activities without fear. Committed to justice, the police promised a thorough investigation and regular updates.
