Abdulqoyum, a part-time ND II student in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, was said to have been on a commercial motorcycle when the police stopped him.

According to Abdulqoyum’s brother, Abdullah, the officers demanded money after placing him in their patrol vehicle.

Abdulqoyum, who had gone to buy footwear for his sign-out, told the officers he had no money.

After being briefly detained, Abdulqoyum exited the vehicle while the officers were dealing with other individuals. Despite not finding anything incriminating on him, the officers confiscated his phone and power bank. When Abdulqoyum attempted to leave, the officers chased and shot him. SaharaReporters said.

Abdulqoyum was shot in the hand, and witnesses said he identified himself and his family before dying from his injuries.

He was rushed to the hospital, where he received four units of blood, but the damage to his veins from the bullet wound proved fatal.

Following the shooting, Abdulqoyum’s family and classmates protested at the Kwara State Police Command, demanding justice.

They called for the Kwara State Government and the Inspector General of Police to investigate the case and hold the responsible officers accountable.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, confirmed that police and security agencies were working to investigate the incident.

Abdulqoyum, a native of Oke Adini in Ilorin, was buried at the Hausa Community Cemetery in line with Islamic customs.
