A 58-year-old Chatham landlord faces multiple felony charges including first-degree murder and aggravated criminal sexual assault following a fatal strangulation and gunpoint attack inside a South Side apartment, according to Chicago police and court records.
Chicago police officers arrested Jerry Powe on Thursday morning in the 7000 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue.
Powe was charged with one count of felony first-degree murder, one count of felony murder with a strong probability of death or injury, three counts of felony aggravated criminal sexual assault with a weapon, and one count of felony aggravated kidnapping with harm.

Woman Found Deceased Inside South Ellis Avenue Residence
The charges follow a October 22 police response to a residence in the 8100 block of South Ellis Avenue in the 6th District.
Around 9:20 a.m., police received a 911 call from a friend of a 28-year-old tenant who reported being sexually assaulted at gunpoint inside the building.
The tenant reported noticing an unresponsive woman on a living room couch during the assault.
Emergency responders transported the 28-year-old woman to Advocate Trinity Hospital for medical treatment, where a sexual assault forensic kit was administered.
Around the same time, Powe walked into the Grand Crossing District police station and confessed to killing a woman by strangulation.
Chicago Fire Department crews forced entry into the locked Ellis Avenue residence and located the body of an unidentified 36-year-old woman covered in a sheet on the couch.
Emergency personnel pronounced the 36-year-old woman dead at the scene.

Extensive Criminal History in Cook County Courts
Court records show Powe has been charged in dozens of criminal cases in Cook County dating back to 1985, including prior convictions for violent felonies, criminal sexual abuse, state prison sentences for aggravated criminal sexual assault, armed robbery, illegal gun possession, and aggravated battery.
Powe was scheduled for a Cook County detention hearing at 2600 South California Avenue on Saturday.
Area Two detectives continue to handle the ongoing investigation.
