Members of the CPD Citywide Robbery Task Force captured 18-year-old Jaquan Patterson just 12 hours after he allegedly stole a 31-year-old man’s vehicle at gunpoint.

Chicago Police Department officers have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with an early morning gunpoint carjacking on the West Side.

Members of the Citywide Robbery Task Force took Jaquan Patterson into custody on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at approximately 1:33 p.m.

Officers apprehended Patterson in the 1100 block of South Springfield Avenue on Chicago’s West Side under an active arrest warrant.

Investigators in the 11th District identified Patterson as the gunman who confronted a 31-year-old male victim roughly 12 hours earlier.

Police report that the incident occurred in the 900 block of South Independence Boulevard, where the offender robbed the victim at gunpoint and stole his vehicle.

Following his arrest, Cook County prosecutors charged Patterson with two felony counts:

One felony count of Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking with a Firearm

One felony count of Armed Robbery with a Firearm

Patterson is scheduled for a formal detention hearing on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse located at 2600 South California Avenue.

Police have not released additional details regarding the recovery of the stolen vehicle or weapons used in the crime as the investigation continues.
