Nigerian music star Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, popularly known as Iyanya, has shared a heartfelt reflection on the emotional toll that fame takes on celebrities especially men, urging the public to show more empathy toward public figures.
In a candid post shared via his official X account on Sunday, the Kukere and Your Waist crooner spoke about the harsh realities of living under constant public scrutiny, describing fame as “a double-edged sword.”
Iyanya reminded fans that behind the glitz, glamour, and social media highlights, celebrities are ordinary people battling personal struggles just like everyone else.
“We need to understand that celebrities are human with deep emotions and struggles like everyone else. Beyond the glamorization is simply a person wishing to be human like the rest of us,” he wrote.
The award-winning singer went further to shed light on how male celebrities often have it tougher, explaining that societal expectations of masculinity make it difficult for men to express vulnerability or seek help during low moments.
“For male celebrities, it is always difficult to bounce back after hitting a low point because men are wired to be stoic and not show vulnerability. Not to ask for help for fear of being seen as weak,” he added.
Iyanya’s post has since sparked widespread conversations online, with fans and fellow entertainers commending him for addressing a topic often ignored in the entertainment industry, mental health and emotional well-being among male artistes.
The singer, who has himself weathered several personal and career challenges over the years, continues to advocate for authenticity, emotional openness, and mental balance in a highly competitive music industry.
His message serves as a reminder that even those who entertain millions still need understanding, compassion, and room to heal.
