Controversial celebrity auto dealer Ikechukwu Ogbonna, popularly known as IVD, has reportedly been arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while attempting to leave the country for Qatar ahead of his much-publicized wedding with self-styled relationship coach Blessing CEO.
The arrest, which reportedly took place on Friday, was carried out by operatives from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Sources say IVD was on his way to Qatar for his upcoming nuptials when authorities intercepted him, citing an ongoing legal matter.
Media personality Stella Dimoko-Korkus, reacting to the developing story on Saturday via her Instagram handle, revealed that the arrest is tied to the unresolved case involving the death of IVD’s late wife, Bimbo Ogbonna.
“Domestic Violence case against him regarding his late wife is still in court. IVD is not supposed to leave Nigeria until the case is over,” Stella posted.
The tragedy involving Bimbo Ogbonna occurred in October 2022, when she died from injuries sustained in a fire incident at their Lagos home. The incident sparked widespread outrage, with reports and footage alleging a long history of domestic abuse.
The Lagos State Government had since charged IVD with one count of involuntary manslaughter in suit No: LD/21055C/23, a case that is still ongoing in court.
Despite the gravity of the allegations, IVD has remained in the public eye, recently making headlines for his relationship with Blessing CEO, who herself gained notoriety for publicly defending him during the early stages of the domestic violence controversy.
News of his attempted travel and reported arrest has reignited online conversations surrounding justice for Bimbo, the culture of celebrity impunity, and the unresolved trauma tied to domestic violence in high-profile relationships.
As of press time, there has been no official statement from IVD, Blessing CEO, or the Lagos State judiciary on the arrest.
