Outspoken Nigerian rapper Emeka Akumefule, popularly known as Blaqbonez, has once again stirred conversations online after revealing that he wouldn’t mind being in an open marriage.
Speaking on a recent episode of the In My Opinion podcast, the “Back in Uni” crooner shared his unconventional views on love, commitment, and sexual freedom in marriage, a topic that has sparked mixed reactions among fans.
According to Blaqbonez, most married couples eventually experience a decline in sexual activity as the relationship matures, largely due to time, stress, and availability. He believes this reality makes it understandable if partners occasionally seek physical intimacy outside their marriage.
“I don’t mind having an open marriage,” he said. “Most married couples don’t keep having the same amount of sex they were having at the beginning. It reduces. If somebody is satisfying her sexually while I’m hustling or touring, that’s okay. There’s more to marriage than sex.”
The Chocolate City rapper further emphasized that sexual encounters outside the relationship shouldn’t threaten the emotional foundation of the marriage, as true intimacy goes beyond the physical.
“It will be difficult for a random person to match what I’ve built with my wife. Nobody can just get her sexually and also mentally addicted to them. They probably can’t make her laugh the way I do,” he explained.
Blaqbonez, known for his candid and often controversial takes on relationships, also revealed that if he ever gets married, he’d prefer to have separate rooms with his wife meeting only when they both desire intimacy.
“If I’m even going to get married, I need two rooms. Me and my wife will only meet when we want to have intimacy,” he added.
This isn’t the first time Blaqbonez has sparked debate over his views on monogamy. The rapper, who often uses his platform to challenge social norms around love and relationships, has long advocated for sexual honesty and personal freedom in romantic partnerships.
His latest remarks have once again positioned him at the center of online discourse with some applauding his openness, while others accuse him of normalizing infidelity under the guise of modern love.
