Sophia Momodu, mother of singer Davido’s first daughter, Imade, has opened up about the challenges she faces as a single parent, revealing that she has not received child support from the music star in the past five years.
In a detailed statement released on Wednesday, Sophia said she felt compelled to speak out after waking up to what she described as targeted online posts attempting to paint her daughter in a negative light. She described her response as that of a “fiercely protective mother” who could no longer ignore the circulating “false narratives.”
Sophia, who has been criticized recently for allegedly preventing Imade from attending Davido’s birthday celebration, clarified that her daughter is “happy, healthy, and well-rounded,” adding that anyone who has met the child can testify to this.
She explained that she has been the primary caregiver for half a decade, taking on all financial responsibilities except school fees; an obligation covered by Davido’s father for the past three years.
“I have not received child support from her father, but our child knows no lack. She is growing in a healthy environment and is very happy,” she stated.
Sophia further revealed that she has chosen to waive all outstanding child support payments and relinquish any future claims, an arrangement she said both parties agreed upon. This decision, she added, now places the full financial responsibility for Imade on her alone.
Emphasising that family means everything to her, Sophia insisted she has never denied Davido access to their daughter. Instead, she said her priority has always been maintaining the child’s safety, structure, and emotional stability.
“I am grateful that my daughter has a loving relationship with both parents,” she added, urging the public to keep Imade out of online drama and focus on “more profitable and healthy” matters instead.
She concluded by calling for an end to false narratives surrounding her child, stressing that social media should not be a breeding ground for misinformation.
