Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has opened up on the secret that helped the club to win the 2024-25 La Liga title.
The Catalans defeated Espanyol 2-0 on Thursday to win emerge champions, adding it to the Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup victories.
The former Bayern Munich coach has credited the team’s family-friendly culture as a major factor that led the team to their 28th league title.
He said: “I think the most important thing is… it’s really fantastic that everyone at this club has their job and they’re doing it with a lot of passion, a really good attitude and mentality, and everyone knows how important they are.
“This helps a lot to reach our goals, and of course the players and the atmosphere in the dressing room, this is so great, I never had this before.
“Everyone really takes care of each other and… it’s unique.”
In 2023, when Barcelona won the league at the Espanyol Stadium they could not celebrate because the home fans chased the players off the pitch.
Flick said: “On the pitch it was clear we could not celebrate there… two years ago (there was trouble).
“It’s also about respect for the fans here, (so) of course we celebrated in the dressing room, fantastic, the players could do that, really good.
“Tomorrow I will stand a little bit in the background and I will enjoy it. When I see the people are happy and smiling I will enjoy it.”
Flick also paid tribute to the team’s doctor, Carles Minarro, who died in March.
He said: “Carles is now here,” said Flick, pointing towards the ceiling.
“He (would be) very proud about our team, what (we) saw in the last couple of months, so we think about him always.
“(We don’t) forget him, because he was a great part of our team and will always have a place in our hearts.”
Barcelona have now won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup this season, but Flick says there’s still a lot more to come.
He said: “It was a very good level, but I think we have the potential to be even better,” he told Movistar afterwards.
“With Barça, you have to win titles, and three is great. I suffered after the semi-final in Milan, but with three titles, I think both the club and the players like me… there’s something to be happy about.”
