Fernandez Leads Chelsea Past Tottenham To Boost Champions League Hopes

Chelsea recorded a 1-0 victory over Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Thursday to boost their Champions League qualification hopes.

Enzo Fernandez scored the only goal of the encounter to hand the hosts the maximum points to solidify their place in the top four.

Enzo Maresca handed the returning Nico Jackson a start, while Cole Palmer also took his place in the team, Noni Madueke observed proceedings from the bench.

Malo Gusto started ahead of Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah was also preferred to Tosin Adarabioyo for the London Derby.

Nico Jackson missed the chance to give Chelsea the lead as early as the first minute when he failed to convert when presented with a glorious opportunity.

Chelsea failed to turn their dominance into a lead in the first half as it ended 0-0.

The second half resumed as Chelsea stepped up their game while Tottenham struggled to create anything of note.

Five minutes after the restart, Chelsea broke the deadlock through Enzo Fernandez, who headed in Cole Palmer’s cross to make it 1-0 for the hosts.

Six minutes later, Caicedo thought he had increased Chelsea’s lead with a stunning volley but the effort was ruled out because Levi Colwill was in an offside position.

Sarr scored a long range effort which Robert Sanchez spilled into the net before the effort was ruled out for a foul on Caicedo in the build-up to the goal.

Tottenham struggled to trouble the hosts held on to earn the maximum points.

The win takes Chelsea’s points to 52, one ahead of Man City in fifth with eight matches to go.

The Blues will be back in action against Brentford on Sunday at the Gtech Community Stadium.
