Former Arsenal midfielder and Ghana international Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, according to the Metropolitan Police.
The alleged offences, reported by the BBC, occurred between 2021 and 2022 and involved three women. Two counts of rape relate to one woman, three counts to a second, and the sexual assault charge is linked to a third.
The 32-year-old’s contract with Arsenal ended on Monday, July 1, 2025, after he joined the club for £45.3 million from Atletico Madrid in October 2020.
Last season, he made 35 Premier League appearances, scoring four goals, and played 12 times in the Champions League, where Arsenal reached the semi-finals before losing to Paris St-Germain. In total, Partey made 130 Premier League appearances for Arsenal, scoring nine goals.
The investigation began in February 2022 following a report of rape. Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, leading the case, stated that supporting the women who came forward is the priority. He urged anyone with information to contact detectives at CIT@met.police.uk.
Partey, a resident of Hertfordshire, is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
