A commercial bus (KTU 69 YJ) crashed into a streetlight pole in Alausa, Ikeja, over the weekend, injuring four passengers, including a couple, due to the driver’s intoxication.
The incident, which occurred along the Alausa corridor, sparked alarm as the fully occupied bus lost control and collided violently, leaving significant damage.
LASTMA operatives acted swiftly, rescuing four severely injured passengers, a couple, one male, and one female, from the wreckage.
The team provided emergency care on-site before transferring the victims to the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), which transported them to the Trauma and Emergency Centre at the Toll Gate for treatment. Other passengers escaped with minor or no injuries.
The Alausa Division of the Nigeria Police Force secured the scene, ensuring the safety of responders and preserving the site for investigation.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condemned the driver’s reckless behavior, emphasizing the agency’s ongoing “Don’t Drink and Drive” campaign.
He expressed sympathy for the victims and wished them a speedy recovery, reaffirming LASTMA’s commitment to curbing alcohol-impaired driving through surveillance and advocacy.
