American R&B superstar Chris Brown has been granted bail by a UK court following a serious assault charge stemming from an alleged nightclub attack in London. The 36-year-old Grammy-winning artist was released on Wednesday, with strict conditions, including a staggering £5 million surety.

According to Judge Tony Baumgartner of Southwark Crown Court, Chris Brown may proceed with his international tour, which kicks off June 8 in Amsterdam, under the terms of his bail. The judge made it clear, however, that the massive bail bond would be forfeited if the singer fails to return to the UK for his scheduled performances, beginning June 15.

“If the singer fails to return to the UK, where he has a series of concerts from June 15, the £5 million will be forfeited,” the judge stated.

Brown, who was not present at the hearing, faces serious legal troubles. He was charged last week with “grievous bodily harm with intent” in connection with a violent altercation at a nightclub in Hanover Square, London. The incident reportedly occurred on February 19, 2023, while the singer was touring in the UK. The alleged victim, identified as Abraham Diah, was “struck several times with a bottle before being pursued and punched and kicked,” according to the charge.

Authorities arrested Brown on May 13 at a five-star hotel in Manchester after he arrived via private jet.

Under his bail conditions, the court ruled that if Brown is not traveling, he must surrender his passport, reside at an address known to the court, and avoid any contact with the victim or visiting the scene of the alleged assault.

Brown’s co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, also a US national, faces the same charge of “grievous bodily harm with intent.” Both men are scheduled to appear at Southwark Crown Court on June 20.

Despite the legal turmoil, Brown remains set to honor his tour commitments, with performances lined up across Europe, including France, and in the United States in 2025.

As the case continues to unfold, fans and the public alike will be watching closely to see how the legal proceedings impact one of R&B’s most recognizable figures.
