SAN ANTONIO — Authorities have recovered a body during the search for Camila Mendoza Olmos, who disappeared earlier this week.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar confirmed the discovery during a Tuesday evening press conference, stating that while a formal identification is pending, the clothing on the individual matches what Camila was last wearing.
The body was found in a field approximately 100 yards from Camila’s residence and a quarter-mile from the search staging area.
A joint team from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI made the discovery Tuesday afternoon.
Sheriff Salazar explained that investigators decided to re-search the area due to tall grass and limited visibility.
The body was located just 10 minutes after the renewed ground search began.
While the medical examiner has yet to determine the official cause of death, Sheriff Salazar noted that investigators are looking into the possibility of self-harm.
-
Weapon Recovered: A firearm was found at the scene. Authorities had previously been searching for a missing weapon from the home, though they have not yet confirmed if the recovered gun is the same one.
-
No Foul Play Suspected: At this time, officials do not believe anyone else was involved in the death.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to confirm the identity and the exact cause of death.
Sheriff Salazar stated that more information will be released once those findings are finalized.
