Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a young woman on Chicago’s West Side.
Authorities identified the victim as 29-year-old Brandy Fleming.
Officers found Fleming unresponsive in an alley early Friday morning.

The discovery was made around 5:30 a.m. in the 200 block of North Kilbourn Avenue.
This location sits within the city’s West Garfield Park neighborhood.
First responders noted Fleming suffered a single gunshot wound to her left flank.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by officials.
Records show Fleming lived nearby in the 4500 block of West Maypole Avenue.
No suspects are currently in custody for the killing.

Area 4 detectives have taken over the lead on the investigation.
Police have not yet released a motive for the shooting.
Investigators spent hours canvassing the alley for shell casings and surveillance video.
The neighborhood remained cordoned off as forensic teams processed the site.
“A Beautiful, Intelligent, Strong Woman”

Moving tributes from family and friends are pouring in as the community mourns.
A family member shared a heartbreaking message regarding the 29-year-old’s death.
“I never thought in a thousand years that I would be writing something like this,” the post began.
The sibling described Fleming as their “baby sister.”
They watched her grow into a “beautiful, intelligent, strong Black woman.”
The tribute noted that Fleming “brought so much light into this world.”
She also leaves behind a “beautiful nephew” that she blessed the family with.
“It’s unimaginable to think that I won’t hear your voice again or have you by my side,” the post continued.
The sibling expressed a deep sense of loss, wishing they could tell her they would get through anything together.
“I will miss you forever,” the message read.
“I will carry your love with me for the rest of my life.”
Others who knew the victim from the neighborhood also shared their grief online.
“I’m too lost for words,” one family friend wrote.
The friend recalled watching the young woman “grow up on the blocks.”
They described Fleming as a “very shy” and “laid back” person.
The friend extended their “deepest condolences” to the family during this time of bereavement.
“My prayers are with you and your family,” the message concluded.
