“BBNaija Changed Our Lives” – Ex-Housemates Ebuka, Mercy Eke, Others Reflect on Impact of the Show

From anonymity to stardom, the Big Brother Naija reality show has long been regarded as a game-changer for many Nigerian youths. Now, some of its most prominent alumni have come forward to credit the show for altering the trajectory of their lives and careers in remarkable ways.

During a series of interviews on the sidelines of popular TV host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu’s birthday celebration held recently in Lagos, former housemates from various seasons of the show opened up about how BBNaija transformed their lives, launched their careers, and elevated their public profiles.

Ebuka, who has become synonymous with the show as its long-time host, reflected on how his journey into television began with his time as a housemate.

“It [BBNaija] definitely made me a TV presenter. I was never going to be doing this. It was not in my trajectory. I was a lawyer, and I was going to be practicing somewhere today. But I went into the Big Brother house and discovered that I have this thing about speaking. Without BBNaija, I wouldn’t have a career in television today,” he shared.

Actress and multi-talented entertainer Bisola Aiyeola also spoke candidly about the impact of the show on her career. While confident that she was always destined for success, Bisola admitted that BBNaija drastically accelerated her rise to fame.

“Big Brother Naija escalated the success that I knew I was going to have either way, but the reality show took it like zillion steps faster to the top,” she said.

Echoing similar sentiments, actor and filmmaker Elozonam noted how the platform amplified his visibility in the entertainment space.

“Big Brother Naija elevated my brand. It gave my brand exposure,” he affirmed.

Mercy Eke, the first female winner of the show, gave a heartfelt testimony about the life-altering effect BBNaija had on her personal and professional journey.

“Big Brother Naija changed me, changed my brand, changed my whole existence. I think you can see it right here,” she said.

For actor Gideon Okeke, who featured in the first season of the show, BBNaija was his ticket out of obscurity.

“Big Brother Naija brought me out to the world, now you know who I is. Otherwise, I would be in the ghetto,” he remarked.

TV personality KimOprah praised the platform for its global reach and the doors it opens for participants.

“BBNaija is an amazing platform; it showcases you to the world. Honestly, you can only go up from there,” she said.

Podcaster and former housemate Adekunle added his voice to the chorus of gratitude.

“Big Brother gave me a platform and made millions of people know me,” he said, acknowledging the visibility and support that followed his time on the show.

Singer and BBNaija Season 5 winner Laycon rounded out the testimonies by crediting the reality show for catapulting his music career to new heights.

“It took it [my career] off the roof,” he noted.
