A woman from Malden, Massachusetts, was arrested Thursday and charged with threatening to kill federal agents during an immigration enforcement operation.
Bethany Abigail Terrill, 37, a known anti-ICE activist, was charged with threatening a United States official. She is scheduled to make an initial court appearance in federal court in Boston at 1:30 PM today.
Interference and Threats
According to charging documents, the incident occurred outside the Malden District Court as federal agents were apprehending individuals for administrative immigration arrests.
Terrill allegedly inserted herself into the middle of the arrest, physically interfering with the operation. She reportedly screamed at the agents and tried to film the scene with her mobile phone, yelling phrases like, “ICE is here, ICE is here,” and “You guys are monsters.”
Agents, who were clearly identified by their badges and official clothing, repeatedly told Terrill to back up, but she allegedly refused to comply with the commands.
The most serious charge stems from alleged death threats made by Terrill. She reportedly yelled, “We’re coming for you, gonna kill you.” The entire incident was captured on the agents’ body-worn cameras.
Serious Penalties
The charge of threatening a U.S. official carries a severe penalty. If convicted, Terrill faces a sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Special Agent in Charge of the FBI, Ted E. Docks. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
