Heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has called for a long-awaited fight with Tyson Fury to take place in 2025, stressing that “it has to happen this year.” The two British rivals have been linked to a showdown for years, but the fight has never materialized. Now, after both men have come off defeats in recent world title bouts, Joshua is eager to make the fight happen next.
“I want to leave the game with a bang and make an impact,” Joshua said. “It’s a fight I want to see because I am a fan of boxing. When I’m in the gym, everyone is asking me [about it].” While acknowledging he doesn’t have many years left in his career, Joshua emphasized that this fight needs to happen, declaring, “It has to happen this year.”
Despite the growing public demand for the fight, Joshua confirmed no official talks had yet taken place with Fury’s team. Tyson Fury lost to Oleksandr Usyk in December, while Joshua was stopped by Daniel Dubois in his most recent match in September.
Joshua made these comments during his appearance at the Ring Magazine awards in London, where he was joined by Usyk and other boxing figures like Chris Eubank Jr. Eubank Jr. also discussed the prospects of a 2025 fight against rival Conor Benn, noting that negotiations were progressing well, with an announcement expected soon.
