Nigeria’s leading airline, Air Peace, will soon operate direct flights between Lagos and São Paulo, Brazil, following approval from Brazilian authorities. This move revives air connections between the two nations and strengthens economic and cultural links.

The announcement came during a joint press briefing between Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu. President Lula highlighted the importance of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA), stating, “Increasing the direct connections between Nigeria and Brazil is another essential step to strengthen the ties between our societies. We have approved the launch of a direct flight, to be operated by Nigeria’s largest airline company, Air Peace, between Lagos and São Paulo.”

Lula also emphasized broader cooperation opportunities. He noted that Nigeria and Brazil, as the world’s two largest countries with Black populations, share potential in sectors like agriculture, livestock, oil and gas, fertilizers, aircraft, and machinery. “There are many possibilities for synergy,” he said.

The Brazilian leader welcomed the restart of the Brazil-Nigeria relationship amid global challenges. “At a time when protectionism and unilateralism have returned, Nigeria and Brazil reaffirm their bet on free trade and productive integration,” Lula added. “We continue to be dedicated to building a world of peace, free from hegemonic impositions.”

This direct route is expected to ease travel for business, tourism, and family visits, reducing the need for layovers in Europe or other regions. Air Peace, based in Lagos, has grown rapidly as Nigeria’s biggest carrier, and this expansion marks a key milestone in its international operations.

Details on flight schedules, fares, and launch dates are yet to be released by Air Peace. The airline has not commented immediately, but industry experts predict the service could start within months, pending final regulatory clearances.
