Welcome to the world of Clase Azul Tequila, where skill meets tradition in every sip.

Clase Azul Tequila

Clase Azul Tequila, renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship and distinctively artistic bottles, has carved a niche in the world of premium tequila. This Mexican spirit, produced by Clase Azul Spirits, seamlessly blends tradition, innovation, and luxury, creating an exceptional drinking experience. In this blog post, we delve into the world of Clase Azul. Keep reading!

What is Clase Azul?

Clase Azul is a premium brand of tequila produced by Clase Azul Spirits. It originated in Mexico in 1997 and embodies and celebrates the rich Mexican culture. This exquisite brand is known for its high-quality tequila made from 100% blue agave. Clase Azul tequila is crafted in small batches and undergoes a meticulous production process. One of the notable features of Clase Azul is its distinctive hand-painted ceramic bottles, often adorned with intricate artwork.

Origin of Azul

Clase Azul Spirits, the company behind Clase Azul tequila, was founded by Arturo Lomeli in 1997. The company is based in the town of Jesús María in the Jalisco region of Mexico. Arturo Lomeli aimed to create high-quality tequila with an emphasis on craftsmanship and unique presentation. The brand has since gained international recognition for its premium tequila and distinctive handcrafted ceramic bottles.

Clase Azul is derived from the Spanish word Azul which means blue. The name “Clase Azul” translates to “Blue Class,” reflecting the brand’s commitment to crafting spirits of the highest calibre.
Did you know that the first Clase Azul Reposado decanter was blue?

Difference between Tequila and Mezcal

Technically, all tequila is mezcal. The term mezcal refers to spirits made from the agave plant, while tequila refers to a specific type of mezcal that can only be made from blue Weber agave in five Mexican states. Mezcal can be made from a wide variety of agave varieties in nine Mexican states.

The Processing of Class Azul

Clas Azul is essentially made from blue agave which is harvested in Jalisco, a region in North Mexico. The plant is celebrated by Clas Azul as a plant whose exquisite distillate is testimony to centuries of Jalisco’s culture and traditions.
Their website reads:’Tequila is one of our most precious treasures and our culture of generosity inspires us to share it with the world.’

During the harvest, the leaves of the plant are removed to expose its core, known as the piña. The piñas are then slow-cooked in traditional brick ovens for 72 hours, and then milled to extract the sugars that result from the cooking process. The process imparts a rich and nuanced flavour to the tequila.

Fermentation with a patented yeast imparts a unique flavour to the elixir. Its notes are then moulded through a double distillation in copper stills. This dedicated effort results in an exquisite tequila.

The tequila is allowed to mature in casks made from oak or other types of wood, while experts study and evaluate its evolution for months and years.

From the distinguished Clase Azul Tequila Reposado to the extra-aged Clase Azul Tequila Ultra, each drop of tequila is a testament to the value of time on a product and expresses something unique about the richness and character that only time can bestow.

The tequila decanters are artistic wonders. They tell stories of the flamboyant Mexican lifestyle. The company employs creative artisans to skillfully apply brushstrokes on the ceramic surface and create the beautiful patterns that we associate with Clase Azul.

The mezcal decanters, in their own right, display caps decorated with precious artisanal techniques, and long-standing traditions in our country.

What is the preparation time for Clase Azul?

The average preparation time for brewing Clase Azul is 72 hours. However, the fermentation process of each tequila variant is different.

Variants of Clase Azul tequila

There are 4 major variants of Clase Azul tequila and 2 variants of mezcal.

Clase Azul Reposado

The classic Clase Azul Reposado is a fine blend of vanilla, caramel and a hint of spice. The spirit is poured into oak barrels where it begins its aging process.

Clase Azul Añejo

Clase Azul Anejo is left in the barrels for a longer period which gives the spirit a more refined flavour. The spirit is a blend of oak, chocolate, and dried fruit notes.

Clase Azul Plata

Clase Azul Plata is an unaged tequila that captures the essence of the blue agave plant. Discover the crisp and vibrant notes that define this variant, offering a refreshing and authentic taste of Mexico’s finest tequila.

Clase Azul Ultra

Clase Azul Ultra is a limited-edition masterpiece. Indulge in a blend of the finest aged tequilas, presented in a stunning decanter adorned with 24-carat gold and pure silver. This variant is a true collector’s item, representing the pinnacle of Clase Azul’s artistry.

The two variants of Clase Azul mezcal are:

Clase Azul Mezcal Guerrero

Mezcal Guerrero is a crystal clear spirit with light straw-coloured highlights. It is a fine blend of seaweed, lemon juice, pepper and light notes of tobacco mixed with the aroma of grapefruit skin, fresh wood, rosemary, peanut oil, hints of butter and daisy flowers.

Clase Azul Mezcal Durango

Clase Azul Mezcal Durango is made from Cenizo Agave, an agave varietal that grows wild in the state of Durango in Northern Mexico. A sip of this exquisite spirit gives you a blend of peanut, brown sugar, honey, wood, chocolate, and notes of ripe fruit. It has an aroma of Citrus and herbal, green olive, cooked agave, and cloves.

How Much is Clase Azul

Clase Azul has an average price tag of about $160.

What is the Most Expensive Clase Azul Tequila?

The most expensive Clase Azul is the Clase Azul 15th Anniversary edition which goes for $30,000. Each bottle of this edition has a distinct design. The spirit is a blend of two unique Azul tequilas.

Annual Production Rate of Clase Azul

Only 100 bottles of Azul are produced in a year because of the long process of ageing.

Conclusion

Clase Azul is a blend of excellence, tradition, artistry, and innovation. From the carefully cultivated agave fields to the intricately designed bottles, every aspect of Clase Azul Tequila reflects a commitment to quality and an unwavering dedication to the craft.
