Chicago police officers launched a homicide investigation after a fatal shooting on the city’s West Side early Saturday morning.
Responding officers arrived at a home in the 3600 block of West 5th Avenue in East Garfield Park around 1:36 a.m.

Police personnel entered the residence and located a 26-year-old man lying inside a hallway.
The male victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body.
Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene and rendered immediate emergency aid.

Paramedics transported the injured man to Mount Sinai Hospital for trauma treatment.
Attending medical staff at Mount Sinai Hospital pronounced the 26-year-old victim dead.
Area detectives secured the crime scene and gathered physical evidence from the residential hallway.

Chicago Police Department investigators are conducting a full homicide investigation into the fatal incident.
Authorities have not released the identity of the victim pending family notification.
No suspects are currently in custody as detectives continue searching for witnesses and surveillance footage.
