A fire outbreak has destroyed four out of five three-bedroom flats at a residential property on Nelson Mandela Street, Asokoro, Abuja, owned by former Zamfara State governor, Senator Ahmed Yerima.
According to reports, the fire broke out at about 1:00 p.m., reportedly originating from solar panels installed on the roof of one of the buildings before rapidly spreading to adjoining flats within the compound.
Although no lives were lost in the incident, several personal belongings, including furniture, clothing, and food items, were completely razed by the inferno.
Emergency response teams from the Federal Emergency Management Department (FEMD), Federal Fire Service, FCT Fire Service, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the FCT Police Command swiftly responded to distress calls and were able to contain the fire, preventing it from engulfing the entire property and nearby buildings.
Authorities have since confirmed the incident, while investigations are expected to determine the exact cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
