Social media critic Verydarkman has broken his silence amid backlash over the arrest of activist Harrison Gwamnishu, explaining why he contacted the police and addressing claims that jealousy fueled his actions.
Gwamnishu has been under heavy public scrutiny after the family of the kidnapped Edo couple accused him of diverting part of the ransom money meant for their rescue. The allegations triggered heated debates online, with many questioning the motives behind his arrest.
Speaking in a new video, Verydarkman revealed he has known Gwamnishu for years and believes the activist constantly faces setbacks often tied to financial controversies. He noted that every time Gwamnishu appears to be making progress, something “money-related” drags him back.
He stated that he decided to alert authorities after watching a video where Gwamnishu dismissed the possibility of wrongdoing. According to him, the comments in that video “gaslighted” him, prompting him to call the police.
Verydarkman insisted his intention was straightforward: if Gwamnishu was innocent, the police would verify it and set him free. However, he argued that the activist’s continued detention suggests there may be weight to the allegations.
In his words:
“I’ve known Harrison for a long time. Harrison has a problem but he’s a good guy. The solution is that he needs cleansing… Anytime he is going up, bad things happen and he comes down again, and it is always money related. People think I’m jealous because I initiated the call, but I did it because of what he said in his video. If he’s telling the truth, they would release him. But guess what, they haven’t, because he’s not the one saying the truth.”
His remarks have intensified discussions online as Nigerians continue to follow the unfolding case.
