Nigerian Fuji icon Obesere was violently attacked on Friday night after a group of thugs stormed a burial ceremony where he was performing in Okitipupa, Ondo State.
The incident took place at the Government Field, where guests had gathered for what was supposed to be a peaceful celebration of life. Instead, the event descended into chaos when a notorious thug identified as Michael Abbey, popularly known as “Emir,” allegedly led a gang of hoodlums to disrupt the show.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers charged toward the stage without warning, sparking panic among guests who scrambled for safety.
In the midst of the violence, Obesere’s manager, who tried to protect the singer, was stabbed with a broken bottle, leaving him seriously injured.
The thugs reportedly carted away the singer’s mobile phone, gold wristwatch, gold chain, and a bag containing N4 million in cash.
A witness, Bosede Akinyemi, described the scene as shocking and disgraceful:
“I attended the event on Friday. It was truly a disgraceful act. A gang of local thugs attacked Obesere and his band while they were performing on the stage.”
Authorities are yet to release an official statement, but residents of the area have called for swift action to bring the attackers to justice.
