Media personality and Nollywood star Toke Makinwa has stirred heated reactions online after advising nursing mothers to avoid bathing their newborns every day, claiming it could harm their delicate skin.
In a video shared on her social media page, Makinwa who recently welcomed her first child at age 40 argued that daily baths are unnecessary for infants because they are naturally clean and not exposed to dirt.
She explained that she personally does not bathe her baby every day, insisting that gentle cleaning is more than enough.
According to her:
“I really think bathing babies actually causes problems. Babies are not dirty. They’ve been inside the womb for nine months. Inside the womb is not dirty.
I don’t bathe my baby every day because it is not necessary. Babies are not on the floor; they’re not dirty or sweaty. Their skin is fragile, you can wipe them instead.”
While some mothers agreed with her and praised her for sharing her experience, others questioned her expertise and insisted that daily bathing is normal, sparking a fiery debate across social media.
The conversation continues to trend as Nigerians weigh in on the celebrity’s unconventional parenting tip.
