Nigerian singer Spyro has expressed frustration over the nation’s reaction to the abduction of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi State, accusing Nigerians of paying more attention to online controversies than a tragic security crisis.
His comments appear to reference the viral in-flight fight between VeryDarkMan and Mr Jollof, which dominated social media conversations despite the Monday morning kidnapping at Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu LGA.
Sharing his thoughts on social media, Spyro wrote:
“25 young girls have been kidnapped in their school and yet there is more conversation about a fight than the abduction of 25 teenagers… Who has bewitched us as a nation?”
He urged Nigerians to stop getting carried away by online drama and instead unite to demand justice and accountability.
“The day we wake up is the day we get freedom… Can we please set aside distractions and speak for justice? #FREEOURGIRLS,” he added.
Reports indicate that armed bandits invaded the school in the early hours of Monday, killing the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, who was shot while trying to protect the students. Residents said the attackers operated freely without security resistance, firing shots and creating widespread panic.
Locals also reported finding multiple unidentified bodies around the school premises after the attack, heightening fears across the community, which has faced several similar assaults in recent times.
In response, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-General Waidi Shaibu, has ordered troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA to swing into action and resolve the matter promptly.
Spyro described the situation as heartbreaking, calling on Nigerians to stay focused and united in demanding justice for the abducted schoolgirls.
