Nigerian music continues to make waves on the global stage as Davido, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, and Omah Lay have all earned nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards.
The Recording Academy unveiled the official shortlist on Friday evening, and it was a proud moment for the Afrobeats community as multiple Nigerian stars made the cut across top international categories.
In the Best African Music Performance category, Davido and Omah Lay scored a nomination for their hit collaboration, “With You.” They will be competing alongside Burna Boy’s soulful anthem “Love” and “Gimme Dat,” the high-energy duet by Ayra Starr and Wizkid. Other contenders in the category include “Hope & Love” by Eddy Kenzo & Mehran Matin, and “PUSH 2 START” by Tyla.
Burna Boy, who already holds a Grammy Award, also bagged another major nomination — this time for Best Global Music Album with his chart-topping project, “No Sign of Weakness.”
He faces tough competition from global heavyweights such as Youssou N’Dour (Eclairer le monde: Light the World), Anoushka Shankar (Chapter III: We Return To Light), Siddhant Bhatia (Sounds Of Kumbha), Shakti (Mind Explosion: 50th Anniversary Tour Live), and Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia (Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo).
This year’s nominations further solidify Afrobeats’ growing global dominance, with Nigerian and African artists continuing to redefine the soundscape of world music.
The 2026 Grammy Awards ceremony is expected to be one of the most exciting yet, with fans eagerly anticipating whether Nigeria will bring home multiple golden gramophones.
