Veteran Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has weighed in on the growing controversy surrounding the alleged arrest and detention of Sammy West, the elder brother of actress Regina Daniels, by her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko.
According to reports, Sammy West was allegedly picked up in Lagos on Sunday and flown to Abuja under the directive of Nwoko, who accused him of meddling in his ongoing marital dispute with Regina.
The arrest reportedly came just a week after Regina Daniels went public with accusations of domestic abuse against the Delta North senator and announced her decision to file for divorce.
Taking to her social media handle, Mercy Johnson who has long been regarded as Regina’s mentor and godmother in the movie industry expressed outrage over the development and questioned the integrity of Nigeria’s justice system.
In a strongly-worded post, she wrote:
“The worst form of injustice is pretended justice.
A child was arrested, no one has been allowed to see him for two days. He was flown from Lagos to Abuja and is allegedly being taken to court from the airport. How did we get here? Nigeria… wow.”
The actress’s statement has sparked widespread debate on social media, with many fans and fellow entertainers condemning what they described as an abuse of power and a violation of human rights.
Supporters of Regina have also called for the immediate release of Sammy West, demanding transparency and due process in the unfolding case.
Meanwhile, neither Senator Nwoko nor his representatives have issued an official response to Mercy Johnson’s comments or the growing backlash online.
The ongoing saga continues to dominate headlines, as many await further clarification from authorities on the true circumstances surrounding Sammy West’s detention.
