Nigerian singer and songwriter Omah Lay has once again stirred concern among fans after revealing that his eyesight has begun to deteriorate; a condition he blames on his prolonged smoking habit.
The “Understand” crooner made the confession in a candid video on social media where he lamented that constant smoking has started to affect his vision. “Igbo has finished me,” he said, using the Nigerian slang for marijuana, while admitting he now struggles to see clearly without glasses.
Omah Lay explained that he never imagined he would become dependent on eyewear, noting that his sight has worsened to the point where he now needs glasses for everyday activities such as reading, watching TV, and even using his phone.
The singer, known for his introspective and emotionally charged music, appeared sober and reflective in the clip, sparking widespread discussion among fans who expressed concern for his wellbeing.
This revelation comes amid a series of cryptic posts Omah Lay has shared in recent months, suggesting he has been going through a phase of deep self-evaluation. The artist, who is currently vacationing outside Nigeria, has previously opened up about mental health struggles and the pressures of fame.
Health advocates and fans have since used his admission to raise awareness about the dangers of excessive smoking and its long-term effects on the body, including vision impairment.
Despite the concern, many fans have praised Omah Lay for his honesty, urging him to prioritize his health and take a break if needed.
The singer, whose real name is Stanley Omah Didia, continues to be one of Nigeria’s most soulful voices, known for his vulnerability and authenticity both in his music and in real life.
