Nigerian nightlife magnate and philanthropist Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has set social media abuzz after announcing his intention to sponsor 50 students from every department at Clifford University, Abia State.
The announcement, made via a viral social media video post, comes shortly after his close friend, Afrobeats star Davido, commissioned a hostel in the university named after his late mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke.
Cubana Chief Priest’s declaration instantly caught fire online, with fans, students, and celebrities flooding the comment sections with excitement, skepticism, and plenty of humour.
While many lauded the gesture as a bold and heartwarming show of generosity amid Nigeria’s harsh economic climate, others doubted its authenticity, calling it another case of “audio philanthropy.”
Supporters, however, defended the celebrity barman, noting his history of charitable acts and his reputation for empowering youths and supporting small businesses.
Critics, on the other hand, questioned the financial implications of the promise, pointing out that funding 50 students per department could cost hundreds of millions of naira, depending on tuition fees and the number of academic programmes at the university.
As of the time of this report, Clifford University has yet to release an official statement or confirm any formal collaboration with the nightlife entrepreneur.
Still, Cubana Chief Priest’s post has dominated online discourse, not for his luxury lifestyle or celebrity connections this time, but for a conversation around education, generosity, and credibility.
