Nigerian music powerhouse Tiwa Savage has finally opened up about her long-standing feud with fellow singer Seyi Shay, offering fresh perspective on one of the most talked-about fallouts in the Nigerian music industry.
Appearing on the latest episode of the Off Air with Gbemi O and Toolz podcast released on Saturday, the “Somebody’s Son” hitmaker spoke candidly about the infamous salon confrontation between her and Seyi Shay that went viral several years ago.
According to Tiwa, the misunderstanding stemmed from a diss track and rumours alleging that she had tried to sabotage the careers of other female artistes in the industry. The singer, however, firmly denied those claims, describing them as both hurtful and untrue.
“There were rumours that I was blocking opportunities for other female artistes, and that was painful because it wasn’t true,” Tiwa said. “I’ve always supported women in this industry. If you do something to me, I’ll tell you directly, not online. I’m not going to pretend we’re cool when you’ve done a whole diss track about me.”
The award-winning artiste revealed that hearing the allegations for the first time left her both “hurt and confused,” especially because she couldn’t understand where they originated.
“That was painful, and I didn’t know where it was coming from. Till today, maybe I need to have a proper conversation with Seyi Shay,” she admitted.
Fans may recall that in 2021, a video of Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay exchanging heated words inside a Lagos salon went viral, sparking widespread debate about female rivalries in the entertainment industry.
While Tiwa’s latest comments suggest she may be open to reconciliation, she also made it clear that honesty and accountability would have to lead the way.
As social media continues to buzz over her revelations, many are hopeful that this long-standing rift between two of Nigeria’s most talented women might finally be nearing its end.
