Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy, has opened up about the huge financial commitment it takes to successfully launch a new artiste in Nigeria’s highly competitive music industry.
Speaking during a podcast appearance, the veteran producer and talent developer revealed that it typically costs between $100,000 and $300,000 to introduce and establish a Mavin Records act on the mainstream stage. The host quickly broke down the figures into naira, estimating that the cost runs into a staggering ₦150 million to ₦450 million.
According to Don Jazzy, these expenses cover everything from recording, production, music videos, promotions, publicity, and branding to the heavy financial outlay required for marketing and international visibility.
The Mavin boss also shed light on his approach to discovering fresh talent, emphasizing the role of social media as a scouting ground. He recalled how he came across stars like Ayra Starr and other signees, stressing that aspiring artistes must take their online presence seriously if they hope to be noticed.
“You never know who’s watching. Keep posting your content. That’s how I discovered Ayra Starr and many others,” he said.
Don Jazzy’s revelation has since sparked conversations online about the real cost of fame and the kind of financial muscle required to compete in today’s Afrobeats scene.
