Nigerian rapper and singer, Skales, has taken fans down memory lane with a powerful testimony about how his breakthrough hit ‘Shake Body’ was born, crediting fellow artiste Timaya for playing a pivotal role in the process.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Skales recounted how a church encounter in 2013 completely changed the course of his career. According to him, Timaya had invited him to attend Shiloh, the annual spiritual gathering organized by Living Faith Church (Winners’ Chapel).
“At the programme, we were told to write down seven things we were praying for,” Skales revealed. “I wrote that I wanted a song that would take me to the ends of the world seven times. Fast forward till today, He (God) gave me a divine unending song. When they think it’s over, another thing pops up about this dawn song. LORD JESUS THANK YOU.”
That prayer would later manifest in ‘Shake Body’, the 2015 track that not only became a massive anthem across Africa but also found new life years later, going viral on TikTok and other platforms a decade after its release.
The upbeat Afropop record, powered by its infectious hook and danceable rhythm, was the turning point in Scales’ career, cementing his place in the Nigerian music scene after years of trying to find his footing.
Reflecting on the song’s longevity, Skales expressed gratitude for what he described as a “divine unending hit,” one that continues to resonate with fans worldwide.
Timaya, who has often been praised for supporting younger artistes in the industry, was instrumental in guiding Skales at the time, further highlighting the Bayelsa-born singer’s impact beyond his own music.
Today, ‘Shake Body’ remains a timeless party-starter and a symbol of perseverance, prayer, and divine timing in Skales’ journey as an artiste.
