Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Njoku has spoken out against the viral video of Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger forcibly removed from a flight, describing the incident as a blatant violation of her dignity.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Njoku said she had no problem with the airline’s decision to remove the passenger if the situation warranted it. However, she strongly condemned what she described as the unnecessary humiliation of allegedly stripping the woman and sharing the footage online.
“I understand removing her from the plane, that’s not the issue.
What I cannot understand is stripping her while doing so and then putting it all over the internet,” she wrote.
Njoku emphasized that airline and airport staff are expected to maintain professional conduct at all times, and she rejected the idea that such dehumanizing treatment could ever be part of standard procedure.
“Airline or airport staff are trained professionals, and I refuse to believe that dehumanizing someone, stripping a woman naked, and broadcasting it online is part of that training, no matter what crime she may have committed,” she stated.
The actress further stressed that the victim deserves redress, adding that she should be compensated for the “damage done to her life and dignity.”
The incident has continued to generate public outrage after a video showing Emmanson’s private parts was widely circulated on social media. Many, like Njoku, have argued that regardless of her alleged misconduct aboard Ibom Air Flight Q153, the handling of the matter crossed the line from discipline to public shaming.
