Afrobeats queen Tiwa Savage has revisited one of the darkest periods of her life, the leak of her intimate video revealing that it happened while she was still grieving the death of her father.
In a heartfelt interview with media personality Zeze Mills, the award-winning singer described the period as the lowest point in her career and personal life.
“It was a space of like two months where my dad died and my sex tape was released,” she said.
Savage explained that the emotional weight of losing her father, combined with the scandal, could have broken her, but she coped by refusing to dwell on it.
“I just tried not to think about it,” she admitted.
The singer’s ordeal dates back to October 2021, when a private video of her and her partner surfaced online, causing widespread media frenzy. At the time, Tiwa revealed in an interview with Power 105.1’s Angie Martinez that the tape had been leaked by someone attempting to blackmail her.
She recounted how the individual demanded money to keep the video private, but she stood her ground.
“I was not going to allow anyone to blackmail me,” Savage asserted.
Despite the incident, Tiwa Savage has continued to thrive in her music career, turning her pain into strength and refusing to let the controversy define her.
