Nollywood actress and outspoken activist, Iyabo Ojo, has once again taken a strong stance in the ongoing fight for justice for late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. In an emotional livestream with fans, the movie star passionately appealed to Afrobeats powerhouses Wizkid and Tiwa Savage to lend their voices and influence to the unresolved case.
Ojo, who has been vocal since Mohbad’s tragic passing, stressed the need for Nigeria’s top artists to stand in solidarity with rising talents, many of whom look up to them for inspiration and hope. She emphasized that silence from industry giants could be perceived as neglect, especially when younger artists face challenges within the system.
“Wizkid and Tiwa Savage, I need you,” she declared. “These young boys, they come from the slums and ghettos just like most of you did, and they were inspired by you guys to become artists. And they have so much talent. Music is one of the talents that has put Nigeria on the map… These children are making us proud.”
According to Ojo, Nigeria’s rich musical legacy is too valuable to be derailed by cult influences, label oppression, or industry silence. She referenced the legendary struggles of music pioneers like Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, and 2Baba, warning that the new generation of artists could face the same fate if those with influence don’t step up.
“Nigeria is blessed with talents, and we cannot allow any cult or anyone pull them down. We cannot allow anybody pull those children down because their music is what’s giving us joy… We will not allow what Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, and 2Baba went through in the hands of record label executives and the authorities to happen to new generational artists,” she said.
Iyabo Ojo’s impassioned plea comes amid growing frustration over the slow pace of investigations into Mohbad’s controversial death. Although rapper and record label executive Naira Marley, Mohbad’s former boss has publicly denied any involvement, his name continues to come up in public discourse.
A Lagos court recently dismissed a suit filed by Mohbad’s father against Naira Marley and his associate Sam Larry, citing insufficient evidence to link them directly to the singer’s death. Despite that ruling, the official investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s demise remains open, nearly two years later.
As public pressure continues to mount, Ojo’s call to Wizkid and Tiwa Savage underscores a broader demand for accountability, unity, and industry reform. For many fans and observers, it’s not just about Mohbad, it’s about creating a safer, fairer environment for the stars of tomorrow.
