Popular Nigerian media personality and social commentator, Scott Iguma, has been remanded in prison following his explosive allegations against real estate giant, PWAN Group.
On Thursday afternoon, the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikoyi ordered Iguma’s remand, marking a new twist in the controversy that has sparked widespread reactions online. This comes a day after he was arrested and detained at the Panti Police Station for accusing PWAN of defrauding numerous customers.
In a dramatic update shared on Instagram, Nigerian singer Kokopee, who was present at the court proceedings, confirmed Iguma’s remand until Monday.
“I’m here in Ikoyi, sadly Scott has been remanded till Monday. He has been remanded for fighting for people. You have a problem with the way he has done it? Did he kill someone? Did he commit a crime? In Lagos I thought they said defamation is not a crime?” Kokopee questioned emotionally in the video.
The controversy stems from a viral series of posts made by Iguma on Monday, in which he accused PWAN of allegedly defrauding land buyers and issuing mere receipts instead of actual property allocations.
“PWAN sells receipts for customers instead of land. I was at the EFCC again yesterday to submit another 25 petitions against PWAN. So we now have a total of 130 petitions from customers that have been sent to the EFCC against PWAN. And we have about 30 victims that we have not filed their petition. Day after day, more victims are still coming to my DM and telling me the atrocities that they have gone through,” Iguma wrote on Instagram.
In his posts, he further alleged that top-ranking police officers were being used by the company’s leadership to silence customers and intimidate whistleblowers.
“PWAN is using some top police officers to oppress victims when they try to speak out,” he claimed.
The unfolding saga has now sparked debates about the limits of online activism, the weaponization of defamation laws, and the balance between free speech and corporate reputation in Nigeria. Many fans and activists have rallied around Iguma, calling for justice and transparency in the handling of the case.
As Nigerians await further court proceedings on Monday, the spotlight remains firmly on both Scott Iguma’s crusade and the legal implications of his bold accusations.
