Months after the tragic passing of Nigerian singer Mohbad, new revelations continue to surface, this time from someone who claims to have been one of the closest people to him during his final years.
A woman identified as Dominica Chinwe, in an emotional and explosive interview with controversial activist VeryDarkMan (VDM), recounted chilling details of Mohbad’s encounters with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), his mental health challenges, and his deteriorating relationship with his wife, Wunmi.
According to Dominica, she met Mohbad through her ex-boyfriend, who was a friend of the late singer. Their bond strengthened over time, and she soon became part of the singer’s inner circle. She recalled a pivotal moment that marked the beginning of Mohbad’s downward spiral, the now infamous NDLEA raid.
Dominica said she, Mohbad, Wunmi, and her ex-boyfriend were at a residence in Victoria Island when they got wind that Marlian Records signee Zinoleesky had been arrested.
The group, she said, rushed to the Marlian residence where the arrest had taken place. “Mohbad told us to enter his car and followed the NDLEA bus to the estate gate. They started shooting and rammed his car three times. He jumped out in anger and began exchanging blows. They beat him badly with the butt of their rifles and forced him into their van while he was bleeding,” she recounted.
She further claimed that the late singer’s health began to deteriorate after the incident. “After the NDLEA incident, he was hospitalized and later taken to Aro for mental health treatment because he constantly complained about his head,” Dominica said, referring to the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Abeokuta.
Dominica’s account paints a grim picture of the singer’s fragile state, alleging that even after being discharged from Aro, Mohbad frequently asked to be taken back to the hospital, showing signs of severe mental distress. She claimed that his family eventually hired a nurse to care for him at home.
Beyond the physical and mental toll, Dominica also pointed fingers at Wunmi, Mohbad’s wife, accusing her of worsening the singer’s condition. She alleged that Wunmi used laughing gas, confided sensitive family information to Naira Marley, and contacted him under the claim that Mohbad’s family wanted to harm him.
According to her, a UK-based doctor once offered to treat Mohbad abroad for six months, but that plan was disrupted when Wunmi allegedly shifted blame to Dominica’s ex-boyfriend.
Dominica’s revelations also extended to some of the viral videos that surfaced after Mohbad’s death, including the now-famous clip where he said, “If I die, it is Naira Marley.” She insisted the singer was mentally unstable when the video was recorded and claimed that another video, in which Mohbad warned Wunmi that her family would never know peace if anything happened to him, was filmed in 2022 and leaked after his death.
She also accused Wunmi of reporting Mohbad’s best friend, Bella Shmurda, to Naira Marley, alleging that he offered Mohbad hard substances.
Dominica’s detailed and emotional account has added another layer to the ongoing public investigation into Mohbad’s untimely death. Her claims, though yet to be officially verified, are likely to spark further calls for a deeper probe into the events surrounding the late singer’s mental health, the NDLEA raid, and the role of those closest to him in his final moments.
