Nigerian music star Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, has voiced his growing concern over the reckless use of social media by many young Nigerians, warning that the trend could lead to devastating consequences.

The Reason With Me crooner took to his Instagram stories to express his frustration, pointing out that the pursuit of online fame through clout-chasing and mischief is a dangerous game. Rudeboy didn’t mince words as he cautioned users who engage in harmful behavior online.

He wrote: “Social media is going to destroy a lot of people… You might think it’s just cruise, clout, or to trend… Your eye go clear.”

The singer’s warning comes at a time when digital platforms have become the main stage for youth expression in Nigeria, sometimes positively through content creation, but often negatively with cyberbullying, misinformation, and desperate attempts to trend at all costs.

Despite repeated incidents of online abuse and defamation, Nigeria’s social media space remains largely unregulated. Although there have been legislative attempts to introduce laws to monitor and guide digital activity, such proposals have been met with mixed reactions. Notably, the controversial social media regulation bill introduced in the National Assembly faced massive public criticism and was eventually stalled.

Rudeboy’s recent comments have reignited the conversation around the influence of digital platforms and the urgent need for responsible online behavior. As a respected figure in the entertainment industry, his words may serve as a wake-up call to young people who use social media without understanding its long-term consequences.

Whether it’s for cruise, clout, or fleeting fame, Rudeboy warns that the price may be much higher than anticipated.
