Liverpool talisman, Mohammed Salah has confirmed that he held talks with Saudi Arabia clubs before signing a new deal at Anfield.

The Egyptian forward signed a new two-year contract with Liverpool in April to bring an end to speculations about his future. He was strongly linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

He was a subject of a £150million bid from Al Ittihad in August 2023 which was swiftly rejected by Liverpool.

Salah has now revealed that he was in talks with Saudi Arabia clubs before signing a new deal at Liverpool.

He said: “I thought there was a good opportunity to join the Saudi League. I believed I might go there if I didn’t renew my contract with Liverpool.

“My relationship with people there [in Saudi Arabia] is still good and ongoing. There were serious negotiations to sign me.

Salah added: “Liverpool fans were part of the contract renewal process – they put pressure on the management because I’ve been at the club for seven years. From day one, I knew they wanted me to stay.”

Salah played a vital role in leading Liverpool to the Premier League title this season with 29 goals, and 18 assists to emerge as the top scorer, and best playmaker for the 2024-25 season.

He scored 34 goals, and provided 23 assists across all competitions this season.

Salah has also scored 245 goals and provided 113 assists in his 401 appearances at Liverpool.

He is third on the list of Liverpool’s all-time top goalscorers, behind Roger Hunt and Ian Rush.

Salah has won nine trophies with Liverpool: two Premier League titles, an EFL Cup, a Champions League, an FA Cup, an FA Community Shield, and a UEFA Super Cup.
