Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe set a new record with his hat-trick for the club in the 4-3 loss to Barcelona on Sunday by breaking a feat that had been set for 33 years.
He has now scored 39 goals in all competitions for Real Madrid this season to become the highest goal scorer for the club in his debut year, surpassing the record set by Ivan Zamorano in 1992/93.
In April, Mbappe overtook his idol Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored 33 goals in his first season at the club in 2009-10.
He has now scored 27 goals in the La Liga to become the top scorer in the competition with two goals clear of Barcelona’s Robert Lewandoski.
Mbappe has the opportunity to add to his tally win three matches left to play in the league and also the FIFA World Club Cup in the summer.
Karim Benzema was the last Real Madrid player to win the top scorer award in La Liga with 27 goals during the 2021-22 season.
Mbappe also became the third player to score at least three times in a LaLiga Clasico in the 21st century.
He has now joined Lionel Messi, and Luis Suarez as the only players to have achieved the feat in the fixture in the league with Messi scoring a hat-trick twice, and Suarez did it once.
Mbappe will be hoping to score more goals when Real Madrid take on Mallorca on Wednesday.
