Salah Beats Isak, Van Dijk, Rice To Football Writers’ Player Of The Year Award

Liverpool star Mohammed Salah pipped the likes of Alexander Isak, Virgil Van Dijk, and Declan Rice to win the 2025 Football Writers’ Association men’s player of the year award.

Salah has enjoyed a prolific season with 28 goals, and 18 assists in the Premier League to break thethe record for the most goal involvements in a single 38-game campaign.

The Egyptian forward scored 90% of the votes cast by over 900 FWA members, marking the biggest winning margin this century.

Salah’s teammate, Virgil Van Dijk came second, while Alexander Isak finished third and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice took up the fourth position.

Salah has now won the award for a record-equalling third time after winning it in 2017/18 and 2021/22.

He is now tied with Arsenal’s Thierry Henry who won the award in (2002/2003, 2003/2004 and 2005/2006).

In the women’s category, Alessia Russo was named the player of the year to become the second Arsenal player to win the award.

She has been instrumental in Arsenal’s run to the Women’s Champions League final with eight goals and two assists while also scoring 12 goals and two assists in the League.

The Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year  is an annual award given to the player who is adjudged to have been the best of the season in English football

The winner is selected by a vote amongst the members of the Football Writers’ Association (FWA), which comprises around 400 football journalists based throughout England.
