Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Michael Adebayo Olayinka, widely known as Ruger, has opened up about the early heartbreak that shaped parts of his emotional journey and personality. The Toma Toma hitmaker shocked fans with a candid and somewhat humorous recount of how he first experienced emotional pain at just six years old.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Bro Bants Show, Ruger recalled a childhood memory that left a lasting impact on him. According to the singer, his first heartbreak came when a much older woman, who had affectionately teased him by calling him her “boyfriend,” was caught in an intimate moment with another man.

“The last time that I experienced heartbreak I was very very young. There was this aunty that I liked, she used to call me ‘my boyfriend.’ So, I assumed that she was my woman. I was just 6 years old,” he said.

Ruger continued, “I got heartbroken because one day, I saw some guy smashing her through her window. The guy was tearing her up, bro. I cried. I was traumatised. I started singing ‘Imagine That’ by Styl-Plus. That was what started my toxicity. That experience broke my heart.”

While the revelation sparked laughter and shock from hosts and fans alike, it gave a glimpse into Ruger’s early emotional development. The young singer, known for his bold style and raw lyrics, admitted that the heartbreak left him with scars that influenced how he navigated relationships growing up.

Fans have since taken to social media to share reactions, with many amused by the innocence of the tale, while others expressed shock at such an experience at a tender age.
