Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has shut down suggestions that the players will be distracted by their Copa del Rey victory over Real Madrid when they take on Inter Milan.

Barcelona defeated their rivals Real Madrid 3-2 thanks to an extra time goal by Joules Kounde on Saturday.

It was the Catalan’s third straight victory over Real Madrid this season, and also their first trophy under Hansi Flick.

The German manager is confident that the cup victory will motivate the players to go for victory against Inter Milan.

Flick said: “No, what I can see is that everyone is focused on this match, that everyone knows how important it is to be able to go to the Champions League final.

“Also this win against Real is very important for the positive vibes, and it could push you also. We know that we have to work hard to reach the final. It’s a dream for everyone to be here, we have to stay focused.

“Inter have a team where some players are at an age where maybe it’s the last opportunity to reach a final and they will give 100%.”

Flick is hoping the players will recover from the exhaustion of playing 120 minutes in a high tempo game on Saturday.

He said: “We’ll see, today is not the day to speak about the starting 11, tomorrow we will see what happens and how they recover.

“Also, Inter played on Sunday and they have less hours of recovery but it’s a Champions League semifinal and everyone wants to give 100%.”

Inter Milan’s treble ended last weekend with a defeat to AC Milan in the Coppa Italia semi-finals, and they have also lost their last three matches in all competitions without scoring.

Flick is not considering changing his approach against the struggling Italian champions.

He concluded: “The Champions League is also for Inter a big chance to win a title, they are two matches away from the final, the same as we are.

“It doesn’t matter about the matches in the past. I don’t think about that because it’s not my job, I’m focused on my team.”

With the victory over Real Madrid, Flick has now won his first seven finals as a manager, beating the record set by Pep Guardiola during his early years at Barcelona.

Barcelona are still on course for an historic treble, they are four points clear of second-placed Real Madrid in the La Liga title race with five matches to go.
