Nwachukwu was found guilty of culpable homicide in connection with Osinachi’s death on April 8, 2022, following allegations of prolonged domestic violence.

Osinachi, renowned for her hit song “Ekwueme,” died at 42 in an Abuja hospital.

Initial reports suggested throat cancer, but her family and friends alleged she succumbed to injuries from a chest kick by her husband, which caused blood clots.

The prosecution presented 17 witnesses, including Osinachi’s children, who testified to years of abuse.

Nwachukwu faced 23 charges, including spousal battery and emotional abuse, and pleaded not guilty, claiming cancer caused her death. The court, however, ruled the evidence proved his actions led to her demise.

The verdict has sparked widespread reactions, with many Nigerians hailing it as justice for Osinachi and a deterrent against domestic violence. The case has also reignited discussions about abusive relationships within religious communities.
