Barcelona have suffered a major injury blow as key player Robert Lewandoski was diagnosed with a hamstring injury, and he is expected to be ruled out of action for three weeks.
Lewandoski suffered the injury in Barcelona’s 4-3 win over Celta Vigo in La Liga on Saturday as they extended their lead on top of the log.
Barcelona confirmed Lewandoski’s injury with a statement on their website on Sunday.
“Tests carried out on Sunday have confirmed that first-team player Robert Lewandowski has a semitendinosus injury in his left thigh,” said Barcelona in a statement, without specifying how long he would be sidelined for.
According to reports in Spain, Lewandoski is expected to be out of action for three weeks, dealing a major to the club’s treble aspirations.
Lewandoski is Barcelona’s top scorer with 40 goals in all competitions the season, and he is expected to be ruled out of the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid next Saturday.
He will also sit out the first-leg of their Champions League semi-final clash against Inter Milan on April 30.
He will also miss league games against Mallorca on Tuesday and Valladolid on May 3.
Lewandoski is expected to be back against Real Madrid in the second leg of the El Classico in the league.
Ferran Torres will be hoping to deputise for Lewandoski in the business end of the season as Barcelona chase glory on three different competitions.
