Man City captain Kevin De Bruyne has expressed surprise that the club did not offer him a new contract despite his current one running out in the summer.
The former Wolfsburg midfielder announced that he will be leaving the club in the summer after spending 10 years at the Etihad Stadium.
He has now revealed that he was surprised that he was not offered a new contract, while revealing he has not made any decision on his future.
De Bruyne said: “I have not had any offer the whole year, they just took a decision.
“Obviously, I was a bit surprised but I just have to accept it. Honestly, I still think I can perform at this level like I’m showing, but I understand clubs have to make decisions.”
The Belgium midfielder did not rule out the possibility of staying in the Premier League.
He said: “I feel like I still have a lot to give,” he added. “Obviously I know I’m not 25 any more but I still feel like I can do my job.
“I’m open for anything. I have to look at the whole picture. I’m looking at sporting, family, everything together, what makes the most sense for me and my family.
“I like to play football. I like to compete. That’s what I feel, so I can’t say that I want to quit because I still feel that whenever I’m in training I want to beat the guys.”
De Bruyne has struggled with injuries in the last few years, missing five months in action last season, and he has also been reduced to a bit-part role this season.
He has played just 26 matches in all competitions while starting only 19.
Manchester City earned a 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday to boost their Champions League qualification hopes.
Guardiola’s men will be back in action against Aston Villa on Tuesday before taking on Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup semi-final on April 27.
