New Facebook Marketplace Scam Alert: Sellers Targeted by “Jinterac” Phishing Links

Reports of a new scam targeting Facebook Marketplace sellers have surfaced, with one user sharing their experience after facing two attempted scams in just five days.

According to the seller, both instances involved potential buyers who claimed they wanted to make an e-transfer payment, a common request on the platform.

However, after agreeing, the seller received a suspicious link appearing to be from Interac, Canada’s popular e-transfer service.

A closer look revealed it was a fake site named “jinterac,” designed to mimic the official Interac platform.

If clicked, this fake link leads to a page asking for login credentials, a telltale sign of a phishing attempt aimed at stealing banking information.

Fortunately, the seller recognized the scam and chose to keep the scammers occupied for a while rather than enter any sensitive information.

This experience highlights a growing trend of phishing scams on online marketplaces and serves as a reminder to scrutinize all payment requests and URLs.

To stay safe, users should always double-check payment links, be cautious of unusual requests, and avoid entering personal information on unknown websites
