Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed he is not chasing the 1,000 goals record after scoring his 931st career goals against Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League.

Ronaldo scored a brace to lead Al Nassr to a 3-1 win over Al Hilal in the race for the league title on Friday.

Ali Al Hassan opened the scoring for Al Nassr on the stroke of half time before Ronaldo added the second goal just after the resumption of the second half with a precise finish.

The former Manchester United star completed his brace in the 88th minute from the penalty spot after Mouteb Al-Harbi handled the ball in the box.

It was Ronaldo’s 70th goal in the Saudi Pro League as he continues to approach an historic 1,000th career goal.

The Portugal captain is currently on 931 goals and he needs 69 more goals to become the first player to score 1000 goals in the history of football.

The 40-year-old has urged his fans to enjoy the moment, saying that he is not obsessed about scoring 1,000 goals.

He said: “Guys, let’s enjoy the moment. I’m not chasing 1,000. If it happens, perfect. If it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen. The moment is the most special thing not what is going to come you know. Enjoy the moment and it was a great win not because I scored of course.

“I’m happy to score two goals against Al-Hilal but the most important thing is to win the derby. We play against a fantastic team away, it’s always difficult, we have to appreciate it and we have to continue because nine games left with one more in the Champions League. Everything is possible, we have to continue and believe.”

He showered praises on his teammates for their efforts in earning the vital win over the reigning champions of the Saudi Pro League.

Ronaldo said: “The team effort was crucial to this win and me scoring is important but it’s more important to win.

“I work hard to help the team in the SPL and Champions League and don’t concentrate on individual records” he added

Al Nassr currently occupy the third position on the Saudi Pro League table with three points behind second-placed Al Hilal, and seven points adrift of leaders Al-Ittihad.

Ronaldo is the top scorer in the Saudi Pro League with 21 goals, and three assists in 25 matches.

Up next for Al Nassr is a home clash against Al-Riyadh next Saturday.
