Don Jazzy Biography 

Don Jazzy, is a renowned Nigerian music producer and singer. He was born on the 26th of November, 1982, in Umuahia, Abia State. His birth name is Michael Collins Ajereh, but he is widely known by his stage name, Don Baba J.

When he was just a young boy, Don Jazzy’s family relocated to Ajegunle, Lagos. It was during this time that Don Jazzy discovered his passion for music.

In 2000, Don Jazzy visited his uncle in London, where he was invited to play the drums at his uncle’s church. This experience solidified his love for music and inspired him to pursue it further.

He eventually met fellow musicians and formed Mo’hit’s record. The label went on to become one of the most successful music labels in Nigeria.

Throughout his career, Don Jazzy has produced hit after hit, and he continues to be an influential figure in the Nigerian music industry.

Music Career 

Don Jazzy had a musical upbringing that allowed him to develop his talent from a young age. He began learning how to play the drums at four years old, and by age 12, he was already skilled in playing various musical instruments, including the bass guitar. 

In 2000, he visited the United Kingdom for the first time, where his passion for music was ignited after being invited to play the drums at a local church. While in London, he worked as a security guard at McDonald’s and associated with artists such as JJC, Dbanj, Kas, Solek, and the 419 squad.

During his time there, he learned music production from Emeka Infiniti at O-Town Record Company. In 2004, he co-founded the successful music label, Mo’ Hits Records, with D’banj, and together, they produced several hits that have since become classics in the afrobeats industry.

Don Jazzy continued to produce records for various artists such as Wande Coal, Sauce Kid, Dr. SID, Ikechukwu, Kween, and D’Prince under Mo’ Hits. He was also employed by Kanye West in 2011 as a producer at Very Good Beatz. He also had the chance to work with Jay-Z and Kanye West on the production of Lift Off, featuring Beyoncé.

In 2012, the Mo’ Hits era came to an end after Don Jazzy and D’banj went their separate ways, and this marked the start of the new record label, Mavin’s Record.

Mavins Record 

After the end of the Mo’ Hits era in 2012, Don Jazzy went on to found Mavin Records. The record label has played a crucial role in helping aspiring musicians break into the music industry.

Under Don Jazzy’s guidance, Mavin Records has signed some incredible artists including Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, and Korede Bello. 

The label has continued to discover and nurture young talents such as Rema, Ayra Starr, Crayon, Lifesize Teddy, Ladipoe, and Johny Drille. All of whom have been making waves in the music industry.
